Elysian Studios is the only artist-owned fine art studio that provides custom framed original artwork on paper and canvas for collectors seeking unique art inspired by music, nature and destination landscapes; and who want authentic, handmade original art ready to hang in their home, office or retail space conveniently ordered online or delivered locally in Denver, Colorado.

Sunlit colors of nature, actively drawn marks, and expressive brushwork are present throughout my art, giving vision to my passion for the majesty of landscapes, the beauty of animals,  the wonder of design in natural objects, and the joy of music and culture.  I work in a variety of mediums to create art that is soulful, sometimes whimsical and often contemplative, evoking feelings of solitude, inner peace, and joy.  I love making art; the intellectual, spiritual and physical struggle involved in creating each piece; the risk in moving along the knife-edge of creative brilliance and disaster.  My work is equal portions of building up and tearing down. It is as much about the pencil as it is the eraser.

A passion for the act of creating is displayed in all my work.  I love the physical qualities of art materials and tools; the scent of linseed oil and turpentine, the drippy, malleable textures of oil paints and pastels, and the responsiveness of linoleum against a carving blade.  I’m proud of the ache in my hands after a hard day's work in the studio.  My art ranges from limited edition hand-pulled linoleum block prints to one of a kind watercolors, drawings, and oil paintings. Different mediums and sizes are utilized to explore various subjects and styles, and to cater to the distinctive tastes of my collectors.  I use only professional grade mediums on archival quality surfaces, often researching the manufacture of materials to ensure my artwork will endure.  These exceptional materials in my art show evidence of being worked by hand with tender care. I allow imperfections to stay, but I merge meticulous details of craftsmanship to create pieces of the highest quality.  I do not endeavor to make images that are technically pristine, like so many of the artists’ work that I admire; I aim for my art to reveal imperfections that are a result of the handmade creative process.

Inspiration for my art comes from travels of the American West: Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming; Music cities: Denver, New Orleans, Nashville and Dublin; and Abroad: Scotland, Ireland, and Italy.  I am also inspired by the majesty of the animal kingdom and the intricate designs found in natural objects such as pine cones, nests, plants, stones, and shells.  As a parent of two young musicians, I am deeply connected to music. I frequently attend live performances which always inspire me.  The act of listening to music while I create both occupies my mind while working and influences my thoughts about how visual art and music compositions are similar, often translating into my imagery.  Artists such as the Italian Renaissance masters: Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, Da Vinci; European Post-Impressionists: Van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky; Modern Canadian and American artists: The Group of Seven (Lawren Harris, Tom Thomson, Emily Carr), The Taos Society (Gustave Baumann, Walter Ufer, Victor Higgins, E.M. Hennings),Georgia O’Keefe, as well as many contemporary American painters, continually inspire and compel me to make art.

I have been making art my whole life: graduating from DePauw University in 1998 with a BA in Fine Art Painting and Art History, studying at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico and abroad in Rome, Italy, receiving top awards during college, an artist grant from San Luis Obispo Arts Council and invitations to gallery shows early in my career.  After gaining experience working in retail art galleries, custom framing and home decor businesses, I began to pursue my art full time in Denver, Colorado in 2011, and have shown my art in regional and local juried exhibitions, art shows, and businesses.  My work has been purchased by local and national collectors, and my goal is to inspire collectors who share my passion for travel, culture, music and nature’s beauty. I strive to create artwork that is honest and authentic to my observations of nature and experiences in the landscape, local music, and culture, and hope it will provide my collectors with many years of enjoyment.
